Chris, I've just learned how to set up a 'Subscribe by Paypal or Credit Card' link for a professional organization's web site. It's very easy.
Any chance we could do that for TAG? It might increase the membership, by making it easy to join on impulse. (I'd probably be a member already if it was just a couple of clicks...)

Negatives would be the extra fees.
I think it might be a good idea once we get to the point of having a separate bank account set up for TAG.
But, in the interim, I'd be OK with "unofficially" offering paypal if mailing a check is a holdup for some. I already have a Premier account that I use for Ebay. The fee for me for receiving a $30 payment would be $0.30 + 2.9%, or $1.17. So if you want to use paypal and are willing to pay $31.17, PM me and we can set it up.

While not insane, the PayPal fees do eat into the little amount of money being collected. While I hate having to increase the amount charges for accepting PayPal, I'm not 100% for padding their coffers at TAG's expense.
Another one of those things that would be a GOOD topic for the meeting!

True, but if ease of paying or 'impulse buying' leads to even 1 or 2 extra memberships, then TAG probably comes out way ahead.
Another way to do it is to follow Chris's suggestion and charge an extra $1-2 fee for online payments. I didn't have any problem with that policy, and I've already paid Chris via Paypal. (See...an extra member already !)

You're right, Urubu. I really hadn't thought about that. Yeah, we should make a PayPal option...

I don't mind doing it unofficially using my account for people that are already known. But since it is linked to my personal banking account, I'm not comfortable setting up an official "Pay with Paypal" button. We should consider an official treasurer position at the meeting and then look into the costs of having a TAG bank account. Then we can look at linking it to paypal.

I'd like to see us have something like PayPal available. If we have fundraisers, sell t-shirts, plan trips or registration for events, it would make it easier to accept the payment without "collecting" the actual money. I don't mind paying a bit more for the convenience.

Ok the pressure is off for us. The deadline approaching finally prompted me to pay my dues. I can hold my head up high now. So, when do I learn the secret handshake?

Glad to hear it, allncham! The "secret handshake" is more like a very complex series of dance moves.
We hope to see you at the 7/8/2007 "Meet and Treat". Please ask for Dean Modling. He'll be happy to show you the "TAG Shuffle".
