xx TAG "Business" Cards?
« Thread started on: Dec 24th, 2006, 11:51am »

A lot of players new to the "game" have been finding the caches I've recently placed. When I see one of these logs, I send a private message congratulating them on the find and introducing myself. I extend an offer of assistance should they have any questions and tell them about the TAG website. Doing this several times over the past few days led me to a thought...

How would the powers that be at TAG feel about having some "business" cards printed with the TAG website listed on it and something about "Where Tallahassee Area Geocachers Communicate"?

I think it would be great to put a few of these in a heavy-duty zip-loc with a "Please Feel Free to Take One" label on the outside.

I think it would be a great way to increase the activity here and positively impact area Geocachers. So, who can make decisions like this?

Thanks for listening!

I think it is a great idea, do it.

Which leads to the next question, who runs this group and does he want to? Not trying to step on any toes at all, but I'd love to get TAG to grow and be a larger, more active group. That may be hard without knowing for sure who runs this and how they wish to run the group.

Team Harrison -

This is a great idea. Some cachers have done something similar. Perhaps you can create something and we can post it on the website then anyone can print as many as they need.

ScottFla -

The members list is on the main site, click the members link on the left side of the page. We've tried to do an event a year, but are really member driven. If there is something you want to do, post it here and run with it. You won't step on anybody s toes.

Hey Chris,

I have seen the members list and thanks for the ok to do stuff smiley Like I said, I'd like to see a more active group but didn't want to do anything without an ok.

I'll ask Mrs. TeamHarrison to help put something together.

Who has the keys to the cashbox? Getting some nice cards and baggies to hold them won't put me in the poorhouse by any means, but if the group has funds sitting unused, then why not tap them for a good cause?

We'll post some examples for feedback, here, once we have something.

Thanks!

I've got the keys, but the money itself is controlled by the group. If enough paid members are interested, I see no problem using group moneys to pay to run of a big batch of these for distribution to members.

Since MC is considered the "founder" and I just happened to the the "social director" wink I think it's a great idea. We've been leaving cards and notes about TAG since we started. I don't even mind making the cards. We did decide on a logo but did we ever get it cleaned up to use? Chris . . .

I seem to remember someone had one on paper that we voted on a couple of years ago and was going to clean it up, but I never got anything back. So, I've been going with the basic logo at the top of the main page. Here is the original logo thread...

I may be wrong, but I thought the logo with the compass points and TAG in green was the one finally decided on. As I said before, I'd be glad to make several dozen cards (full color) and bring them to the meet on the 27th. Suggestions about wording are welcome. Give me the go-ahead and I'll get it done.

I also thought the suggestion from the official who spoke at GeoSpirit 2006 about letting local merchants know you are in their establishment spending because of geocaching was a great idea. Maybe we can combine the two. What about it?

OK, here is a crack at a simple card that will get the word out. Please let me know what you think.

User Image

One place online would charge ~$50 for 1,000 full-color cards with Glossy U/V coating. Reduced amounts do not result in much savings. I'll check out the local Fedex Kinkos to see what they'll do it for.

Please let me know what you think!

Leave a stack of ~10 in a zip-loc in every cache in Tallahassee and the word WILL get out!

Not a bad idea. The purpose of this card would be for placement in caches as "advertisement" to bring people to the TAG website.

I think there's definitely a good case to do ANOTHER card that would have the logo, website address, and then the positive economic impact of caching statement on the back. The purpose of that card would be to leave with businesses we visit while out caching.

The whole idea of leaving these was talked about at the GeoSpirit 2006 event and made a LOT of sense. We're there and spending money, why not tell them who we are!

I think they look great. If a few more members give the thumbs up, would you mind going ahead and getting them printed before the What-A-Meet. I'll reimburse you from club funds there (and if I don't make it, I will send you a check).

Is there a discount going to 2,000? If we try to put any sort of quantity in the local caches, we will probably burn through 1,000 pretty quick.

MC and I approve and will gladly supply 100 3 x 4 zip lock bags to put them in. I agree with upping the number to 2,000 cards.

The online site will give us 2,000 for $80. It's a better deal because orders over $75 get free shipping. Shipping on 2,000 would be around $12.

So, it's definitely a good deal to go with 2,000 if we go with the online source.

I was incredibly busy today and didn't get to ask Kinkos Fedex what their rates were. I'll check that in the morning.

Give me the thumbs up and I can certainly get this done before the meeting! Just say the word, please.

Thanks!
