Articles of Organization

As discussed at the meeting, we wanted to investigate becoming a nonprofit so we could get some donations. The proposed articles are at www.tagfla.com/articlesoforganization.rtf and should be openable in just about any word processer. Thanks to TeamJaxDream for putting this together. Please post any suggested changes in this thread.

Special-K, NoleMan, and Team JaxDreamn discussed the Articles tonight... K suggested adding "educational and environmental" to the Third Article. TJD needed to correct the first tax section in the Fifth Article, from 170(c)(2) to 501(c)(2).
Then we went a little crazy  Talked about membership fees, t-shirts, cache journals, and lots more! We'll need to bring these ideas to the next general meeting for everyone's input.
In any case, please, everyone, feel free to suggest changes to the Articles! We need to have a draft for the next general meeting... Thanks.

Let it be known that TJD has graciously and professionally done all the work on the articles. It will cost $150.00 to file them, therefore the discussion about membership fees, etc. Once that's done, we can accept donations from grants or individuals and shouldn't have to be as concerned with fundraising activities.
The educator in me feels strongly that education and environmental awareness are important aspects of this hobby/sport that can make a difference in our community at large.
There is much to discuss and many decisions to be made at the August 3 meeting. Please mark your calendars and come make your voice heard. K

Did you want to make this an event on the main geocaching website to attract more area geocachers? Or just to those who have expressed an interest in forming the organization and visit this page ?

If anyone has a way of getting in touch with TeamJaxDreamn, please do so. We have the money to file but don't know what to do with it and I don't want to redo the legwork they have already done. We can give it a little more time and then either start over or I can refund everyones money.

Chris, what's the status on this? Is it really necessary since we don't seem to be seeking tax-exempt status?

I say drop it for now. The purpose of getting it was to get grants for projects. I think this might be a possibility in a few years, but we are just now starting into a growth phase, so once TAG gets more firmly established, then we can look at it again.
