ANNOUNCEMENT: Luther Hall Landing Park CITO!

Come celebrate the 2007 International Cache In Trash Out Day at the Luther Hall Landing Park CITO!
Saturday, April 14, 2007, 9:00 - 11:00AM.
Please join other area Geocachers in cleaning up Luther Hall Landing Park. Located just off of Blountstown Highway (State Road 20) on beautiful Lake Talquin, Luther Hall Landing Park is a beautiful park, picnic area, campground, and landing managed by the Leon County Parks and Recreation Department.
We will begin promptly at 9:00AM when supplies will be distributed and a short safety briefing conducted. Bags, SOME trash grabbers, and rubber gloves will be provided. If you have heavy-duty work gloves and want to bring them for your own use, that would be advisable. If you have FRS/GMRS radios (walkie-talkies) that you can bring, they may also be useful.
When I mentioned to Josh McSwain, Supervisor, Leon County Parks and Recreation Department that several of the area Geocachers kayak and canoe, he brought up the CITO needs of this park.
While the main park, picnic area, and campground is well-kept by the Leon County Parks and Recreation Department and their friendly Camp Host, the real attention this area needs is in the cove by the landing and along the sometimes steep shoreline around the park.
Josh specifically noted that shallow-draft boats (kayaks/canoes) would be needed and was quite pleased that we are willing to undertake this clean up!
If you have a kayak or canoe, *PLEASE* bring it. The bulk of the efforts of this CITO will focus on the cove by the landing and along the sometimes steep shoreline around the park!
There will still be plenty to clean up for the non-boaters out there too!
Once the main park area, cove, and shoreline are clean, or at the event end time of 11:00AM, anyone interested can join us as we do some kayaking and canoeing on beautiful Lake Talquin. Rumor has it that there's a deserted island directly out from the landing that is *DESPERATELY* in need of a Geocache, so there will likely be an adventure to paddle to the island to place one after the event.
Some fishing, from both the fishing piers and by boat, will likely take place later in the day for those that bring their gear.
Naturally, we also encourage anyone interested to take advantage of the wonderful local caches upon conclusion of the event!
For anyone interested in *REALLY* making a weekend of it, there are several camping opportunities in the area.
First, Luther Hall Landing Park itself offers tent-only camping. Nearby Williams Landing offers tent camping and RV Camping. Also nearby is Coe Landing which offers a full-service RV center. For more information on these wonderful facilities and to make your reservations (Reservations ARE Required), check out the Leon County Parks and Recreation Camping Page.
Please let me know in your "Will Attend" note if you are planning on camping. We're curious to see who will be joining us in the campground!

Awesome! Not sure what I'm doing that day except that's the only weekend before finals, but if I have everything under control I'd love to come! I can maybe bring our Maui....

To those that are planning on attending the Luther Hall Landing Park CITO, I have some news. They have official 2007 CITO shirts at $6, really cheap. I am willing to put in a bulk order so, that maybe, we can save on shipping. Let me know (how many and what size) by next Tuesday (3/27) and I'll put in an order.
